I Vitelloni by Federico Fellini
Federico Fellini’s I Vitelloni. Fellini’s effort shared the Venice Film Festival’s Silver Lion with five other titles, including Morris Engel‘s naturalistic, independently made Little Fugitive. Despite Little Fugitive‘s critical success and Academy Award nomination (for Best Motion Picture Story), Engel had trouble getting financing for his other projects. Only two other Engel-directed features would find distribution, both in the 1950s: Lovers and Lollipops and Weddings and Babies, the latter his only film featuring a bona fide star.
