Star Trek 2009 stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Eric Bana, along with director J.J. Abrams, were all on hand at their film’s Japanese premiere held on May 12 at Shinjuku Milano One in Tokyo.
The Star Trek reboot opened on May 8 in North America.

In the big-screen reboot, Chris Pine plays Captain Kirk, the role that turned William Shatner into a television icon. Born on August 26, 1980, in Los Angeles, Pine has been featured in only a handful of movies in the last five years.

- Garry Marshall’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, with Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo, and John Rhys-Davies.
- Donald Petrie’s Just My Luck, opposite Lindsay Lohan.
- Randall Miller’s comedy drama Bottle Shock, featuring Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman.

Also worth mentioning, Chris Pine is the son of Robert Pine, who played Sgt. Joseph Getraer in the CHIPs TV series starring Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox.
Besides, the Star Trek 2009 actor is the grandson of actress Anne Gwynne, who was featured in a number of B movies in the ’40s. These include:
- The serial Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940), toplining Buster Crabbe and Carol Hughes.

Accompanied by Paramount Pictures Germany general manager Sven Sturm, Star Trek 2009 actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, and John Cho, and director J.J. Abrams attended their film’s German premiere, held on April 16, ’09, at the Kino CineStar Sony Center in Berlin.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are about to become “movie stars” by way of Star Trek. Eric Bana’s film credits include Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated political thriller Munich, while Zoe Saldana will be seen (in digital form) later this year in James Cameron’s futuristic adventure Avatar, starring Sam Worthington.
Karl Urban’s movie credits include Peter Jackson’s Best Picture Oscar winner The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Paul Greengrass’ The Bourne Supremacy. Simon Pegg was seen in Shaun of the Dead, Mission: Impossible III, and Hot Fuzz.
As a director, J.J. Abrams is best known for the Tom Cruise actioner Mission: Impossible III and the TV movie Anatomy of Hope.
Star Trek 2009 cast
This 21st century Star Trek reboot stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, made famous on television by William Shatner (replacing Jeffrey Hunter, who originated the role in the Star Trek pilot). Zachary Quinto plays Spock – Leonard Nimoy in the 1960s TV series.
