American Cinematheque to present Snow White and the Huntsman sneak preview
Snow White and the Huntsman has just had its world premiere in London. Now the Los Angeles-based American Cinematheque is inviting members to the sneak preview of the Rupert Sanders-directed Gothic action fantasy starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Sam Claflin.
The American Cinematheque’s special Snow White and the Huntsman screening – for members only (website) – will take place on Saturday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.
The film’s costume designer, three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood (Chicago, 2002; Memoirs of a Geisha, 2005; Alice in Wonderland, 2010), will be present for a post-screening Q&A session. A selection of Atwood’s costumes will be on display in the Egyptian’s lobby.
Also in the Snow White and the Huntsman cast: Oscar nominee Bob Hoskins (Mona Lisa, 1986), Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Lily Cole, Vincent Regan, Noah Huntley, Nick Frost, and Rachael Stirling.
Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, another version of the Snow White vs. Evil Queen tale, opened in late March 2012. Domestic reviews were mixed, and the lighthearted comedy turned out to be a domestic box office disappointment as well. Overseas, however, Mirror Mirror has performed relatively well, especially in the United Kingdom, Russia, and Brazil. In the cast: Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White, and Armie Hammer as Prince Charming.

In this visionary, Gothic reimagining of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale, vain queen Ravenna (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) sends an intrepid huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) into the foreboding woods to find and kill Snow White (Kristen Stewart), a princess who is prophesied as “the fairest of them all.” But when the Huntsman and tough warrior Snow White come face to face, allegiances change.

Kristen Stewart has two other movies coming out in 2012: Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, costarring Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and Walter Salles’ On the Road, costarring Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund.
Chris Hemsworth has two movies already out: Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods and Joss Whedon’s blockbuster The Avengers, costarring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, et al. Opening later this year is Dan Bradley’s Red Dawn, in which Hemsworth is featured with Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Josh Peck.
Charlize Theron has one other 2012 release, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce.
Sam Claflin should next be seen in the Hammer horror drama The Quiet Ones. Claflin had previously supported Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and had one of the key roles in James Strong’s United.
Stewart is no Swan
An aside: Besides admitting he has never watched any of the Twilight movies, Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders averred to Collider’s Christina Radish that Kristen Stewart won’t be known as “the Twilight girl” for very much longer.
“I think what I realized is that she’s such a good actor that everyone thinks she’s Bella Swan. They believe that that’s her. Obviously, an actor is playing a role. She is nothing like Bella.”
